Please find below some helpful tips for selecting a DJ in the Toronto / GTA area and planning your Wedding:

Helpful Tips:

  • Meet the actual DJ that will be assigned for your event (before signing the contract). Do your homework (prepare a list of questions you need to ask him / her beforehand to ensure you are comfortable with him / her) and remember that surveys show that 80% of an events success usually depends on your entertainer (DJ or Band). Evaluate at least three Toronto DJ Services before you select the DJ for your event. It is a big responsibility, so choose wisely and follow your heart.
  • Make sure you carefully review the terms and conditions of the DJ Service Contract. Agree on all chargers and conditions making the advance payment and committing your self.  You should request the DJ to be on site at least one hour prior to the event so that the set-up is complete before guests’ starts arriving.
  • Prepare the agenda for the event and share it with the DJ / MC, Event Coordinator and anyone else you feel should be aware of the activities. Remember that you will be busy talking to friends & guests during the event so you may need some one else to help you with the coordination.
  • Decide the floor plan / seating arrangements in advance and share it with the DJ.  If possible meet the DJ on site about two weeks prior to the event to plan out the logistics to discuss best locations for the DJ Booth / table and the speakers.
  • Make sure that the DJ Booth / Table or Stage is centrally located and is in a location that is not obstructed. It is important that the DJ has a good oversight of the dance floor and the overall hall with a clear view of all the guests. If you place DJ in a section of the room away from your guests or in a corner with an obstructed view, it will make it difficult for the DJ to perform optimally.
  • Ensure you don’t have any tables / chairs blocking the speakers or sub woofers.  This will be both annoying for people seated closely as well block the sound.
  • If you have any family members or guests who are sensitive to loud music then make sure they are seated in a table away from the dance floor.  Most DJ’s will focus the speakers to the dance floor.
  • Discuss with the DJ about the size of the venue (if there is no physical visit to the venue) and the number of guests attending the event.  The DJ need to plan and bring the appropriate sound system to suite the venue / crowd. Most often a professional DJ service will make recommendations. Try to evaluate few different opinions as some DJ companies may not have proper sound systems while others may sacrifice sound quality to save money.
  • Prepare an agenda for the event and share it with the DJ / MC, Event Coordinator and anyone else you feel should be aware of the activities. Remember that you will be busy talking to friends & guests during the event so you may need some one else to help you with the coordination.
  • Send your preferred music list to the DJ at least one week in advance so that he / she will have sufficient time to create the play list for your event. Ask the DJ to play you the main songs when you meet for the pre-event consultation to ensure that it is the exact version you want.  Remember, sometimes there can be several versions of the same song by same or different artists.
  • Plan cocktail and dinner music ahead of time with the DJ. Remember that this is the best time for the DJ to play your favorite non-dance music.
